Tailor-made Spaces

An inclusive, community-based artistic residency programme for artist parents and their children, developed at Fabra i Coats - Fàbrica de Creació (Barcelona). A pioneering project that explores the relationship between art and childhood, offering new ways to create, support and share artistic processes from a community perspective.

At Prohibit no Tocar, we took part in the design and creation of the Childhood Space: an environment conceived so that children's play, discovery and creativity engage organically with the research and artistic practice of the residents. A living space, embedded within the programme, that recognises childhood as an active part of cultural and creative processes. The project is led by Base O and Duae Collective, in co-production with Fabra i Coats - Fàbrica de Creació (Institut de Cultura de Barcelona) and with the support of the Departament de Cultura of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

A pilot project by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) that in 2023 drove the creation of childhood spaces and free childcare services in several of the city's cultural centres, with the aim of making cultural activities easier to attend and supporting work-family balance. The initiative strengthens the right to culture, fostering welcoming environments where children and families can be present and take full part in cultural life.

At Prohibit no Tocar, we designed these spaces in venues such as La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, the Contemporary Art Centre of Barcelona, the Teatre Lliure (Montjuïc site) and the Picasso Museum of Barcelona - spaces for care, play and support that bring childhood into cultural settings and make access easier through an inclusive approach.

A playful installation inspired by the forms and the thinking of designer Victor Papanek, created for the Design in Family Festival at the Design Museum of Barcelona.

Drawing on his research into habitable structures - such as his Nomadic Furniture modules and his hexagonal configurations for public space - we created a play space that invites children to inhabit, transform and experiment with form. We take inspiration from the cube and the hexagon, geometries that recur throughout his designs, to build a modular play space open to countless configurations. A proposal that brings design closer to childhood in a creative and participatory way.

Gatejant is a cultural and educational project created to give voice, value and visibility to early childhood, recognising the first 1,000 days of life as a decisive stage that shapes a person's physical, neurological and emotional development.

Gatejant supports local areas in building a new way of looking at children aged 0 to 3 and their families, forging connections between schools, professionals, institutions and local communities. At the heart of the project lies culture as a space for encounter, growth and awareness - one capable of generating new perspectives and strengthening the social fabric.

A ready-to-use model, adaptable to different areas and designed for towns that want to place early childhood at the centre of their policies.

Loop is a new proposal by Prohibit No Tocar for early childhood and their families, designed for the CAIXAFORUM Museums in Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia, Palma de Mallorca and Seville as part of the cultural event "Noches de Verano", for the thematic section “Circus and Play”.

Loop is a new project where play unfolds as a free, sensory experience in constant transformation. Inspired by the imagery of the circus and the poetics of movement, the space becomes a landscape immersed in colour, light and textile material - an environment that invites the body to move, to discover and to inhabit.

With no predefined paths, the project follows the rhythm and curiosity of each child. The materials, open and transformable, are offered as possibilities for play and connection: they stretch, they tie, they hide and they reappear. They become shelter, path and play.

The various installations create sensory, motor and symbolic experiences, encouraging both individual exploration and shared play. Like a loop, the space invites continuous movement: each action transforms the play experience and opens new ways to interact and discover.
